Chief Guide

Portrait Evans Mwangi and FamilyMy name is Evans Mwangi and I am your Chief Guide. This is my wife, Trisa, and our daughter, Michelle.

I was born on 6th March 1971 in Central Kenya, East Africa in a village on the slopes of Mt Kenya that is mainly comprised of peasants.  Both my parent were small scale farmers doing subsistence farming to raise our family.  I completed school in 1988.

In early 1989, I joined Kenya Guides and Porters Club in Naromoru at the base of Mt Kenya where I started working as a porter.  After a year I was promoted to a trainee guide and I took an Outward Bound Course.  I became a fully certified guide in 1990.  I continued working us a guide until 1995 when I did an Outdoor Leadership Course organized by the National Outdoor Leadership School ( NOLS) and began practicing privately as a professional guide.  I am proud to be one of the 10 best guides recognized by the Mount Kenya Guides and Porters Club.

I offer a more personalized service to climbers with no middlemen involved.  Apart from that I always insist on knowing my clients and meeting them personally so that we make room for variations if special requests are made.  All the helpers I work with are well qualified, experienced people of good conduct and character and most of them speak English well.

On languages, apart from my native tongue Kikuyu, I also speak fluent English, Kiswahili and Spanish.

I believe that it's through the challenges that you climbers offer us that make our service provision better every passing day.

Go ahead and give us that challenge!!
