Samson the superb guide, Leewell the fantastic chef, and the porters Eric, Cyrus and Jimmy were excellent and we spent many a moment talking about our lives and aspirations. They even managed to cope with my sense of humour. Please take any unwanted mountaineering gear to give to these guys. Whatever, they certainly appreciate it. The route was chosen by Evans and certainly was the better route. So pleased we did that one. Thank you to the Team and Evans.

July 25, 2019I just finished a 5 day/4 night climb up Mount Kenya with Go To Mount Kenya via the Chogoria Route and down the Sirimon Route. I had a team of... read more three - Samson, Daniel and Jimmy - with me to help me reach the summit. The team were amazing and I don’t think I would have been able to make it to the summit without them. Nothing was out the question and if I needed anything at all they would provide it. I was served amazing quality food every day by Daniel and ate like a king, which really helped with the long days of walking. It also helped knowing I had Jimmy to help carry all my supplies and he was always at the next camp with my tent set up and bag there waiting for when I arrived. Samson was an amazing guide, making sure I got to see everything Mount Kenya had to offer, from beautiful waterfalls to scenic lakes and much more. He also really made sure I was safe on some more of the precarious parts of the climb and made sure we got up to the summit to watch the sun rise. Overall the team were incredible and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. 10/10 would recommend this climb and especially Go To Mount Kenya with the team of Samson, Daniel and Jimmy! …

When we got to camp a hot flask of tea and hot chocolate was waiting for us, followed by a nutritious 3 course meal with, soups, stews, pasta and fruit. It didn’t matter that we weren’t experienced climbers and our guide Paul helped us go at a good pace to reach the top and see the sunrise. It was hard at times but definitely worth it for the beautiful flora and fauna, sense of achievement and memories that will last a lifetime - thank you so much guys!
February 1, 2022Unforgettable experience to walk the Mount Kenya climb. Beautiful nature, amazing sunrises and a good portion of adventure. Thanks a lot to our guide, cook and porters. September 1, 2021Thanks to our guide Zachari, we made it to the other site of Mt. Kenya and had an unforgetable hike along the Sirimon-Chogoria route. Food was great and plenty -... read more though the altitude made us loose our appetite. Service was great and when one in our party of three decided to go back on day two, it was all taking care of in the best way. The hike is tough when your not in your best shape, but thanks to Zachari, we succeded and got an experience to remember forever.
We booked via email and everything was as aggreed. We can easily recommend Evans and his company gotomountkenya.com.

From start to finish I had the best Mount Kenya experience I think I could have had. The contact with Evans from the start was very clear and quick. The... read more packing list made sure I was well preparered, which I was very thankfull for at the cold nights and rainy day.
The extra care during the trip, with the warm water and soap to wash my hands in, the tablecloth and the tent being set up on piled up dead grass for the extra insulation, made it just that little extra, without it feeling too luxurious. The care they have for the mountain and their job is noticed and very appreciated. Amazing food, amazing mountain, skilled guide and the kind and skilled driver is also mentionable.
September 17, 20225 day Chogria-Sirimon route. We had a fantastic experience with Zachary ( dot-com) and his kind, encouraging and hard working team to ensure we had the best time possible. Special... read more mention to Desmond, one of the porters who always had a smile on his face and was a pleasure to spend time with.
We had had excellent communication with Evans beforehand and driver Simon was great too, adjusting pick up times and communicating with the hotel driver at the drop off after the trek.
We were very impressed with the quality of food, particularly the effort to ensure there was gluten free food for my wife who is Coeliac. Similarly when my wife was cold one night high up in the tents, she was given a bottle of hot water to keep warm during the night.
The summit was a real challenge but with careful encouragement we made it for a beautiful sunrise.
One thing we might have taken is a four season sleeping bag as we were still cold with the hired ones. Go to mount Kenya provide roll up mattresses, in our prior experience inflatable mats would maybe have worked better. Our first night was jn a really nicely maintained cabin at Anabas camp, completed with fire which was a nice way to start. The remaining nights were spent in camps where the team situated our tent in a beautiful location and awoke us early when the mist/clouds had lifted and there was a beautiful sunrise. Communication about wake up times/breakfast/set off times was always clear. There would always be a bowl with some soap and hot water to wash our hands before meals.
We would highly recommend the Chogria-Sirimon route as the Chogria route up was beautiful with several small additionally walks such as to Lake Ellis, a waterfall and some caves. It also has a steady increase in altitude helping adjustment. We only saw two or three other groups coming down whilst we went up Chogria, the Sirimon path was much busier. The summit day is tough but started with a hot drink and some biscuits and there was a delicious cooked breakfast waiting for us at Shipton’s camp on the route down.
We would highly recommend go to mount Kenya for a wonderful experience.

January 28, 2020We had a great time with Go To Mount Kenya agency to visit Mt Kenya last month. First of all, the communication and planning ahead of our trip was... read more very structured, yet flexible to accommodate our further agenda. Together with Evans, the manager of the agency, we designed a 5 day program, starting in Chogoria via the Chogoria route to reach Point Lenana and then via the Sirimon route to go back. A few thoughts: On the route: We can definitely recommend the Chogoria route, which offers an amazing scenery and allows you to visit several lakes and a waterfall. Also we liked the terrain more to climb than the one we saw in Sirimon. On the difficulty: Both of us are in relatively good shape so the physical difficulty was ok, as the first days you most of the time hike no more than 3-6 hours. The 4th day, going to the summit, was a long and harder day, but should be feasible for all in good shape. It really helped to hike with an experienced guide to pace yourself and get used to the altitude (as we are no experienced mountaineers). Bear in mind that because of the altitude & temperatures, your sleep is not perfect, which you will feel after a few days of less-quality sleep. On the organization, guides & staff: The organization of Go To Mount Kwas simply amazing. Simon was our driver that offered a comfortable ride to Chogoria. We had Zachary as a guide which helped us to pace ourselves and get used to the heights. He knew exactly when to share a bit more information on vegetation, the landmarks and some other interesting facts. Absolutely not too pushy and respecting your personal conversation you would have. Daniel as our Chef and Steven, Isaac & Eric as our porters offered our each day a 5* experience with varied, tasty & nutritious meals (3 per day + snack + tea/coffee). We did not pack any snacks (which we would recommend though)never felt hungry. The full team is really supportive with any questions you may have and water is available. All in all we can really recommend Go-To-Mount Kenya !!
October 1, 2021Had an amazing time with Paul and the guys. Communication very straight forward. Everything taken care of seamlessly, the food was amazing I especially enjoyed the Guacamole. Paul helped carry... read more extra items of mine which was appreciated.
Summit day can be a little exerting to the summit but just pace yourself, pole pole!
Got to the summit just in time for sunrise
Beautiful scenery to enjoy up there
September 8, 2022We hiked Mt. Kenya twice with William’s company in 2022. Once in the third week of January and once at the end of December. He is hands down one of... read more the best organizers out there. Clear and transparent communication in advance. Fair pricing. Great food. Safe transport. Kennedy can does an amazing job of setting a pace that is right for the group and can at any point give you accurate estimates of times and distances (which is pretty difficult). No one in our groups got sick or injured. His team of guides (we walked with Kennedy both times), porters, cooks and helpers will make this a very enjoyable experience with no nasty surprises. A big thanks to all and each of you and particularly to you, William, for bending over backwards to make all the little things perfect.
Of course, the mountain itself is the star. We had great weather both times so were able to enjoy the breathtaking views of and from the mountain. But don’t forget what is up close, the vegetation and wildlife are like no other place I have been. 100% Africa while still being 100% high altitude mountain. Beautiful little streams and ponds and diverse, out-of-this-world vistas. Amazing. Worth every minute, bead of sweat and Shilling.
Both times we started from the Sirimon Gate, spent the first night in Ol Moses (about three hours on asphalt) and the second in Shiptons (about 7 hours on well maintained paths). The first time we summited Lenana Peak for sunrise (3 hours) and walked out to Chigoria Gate in one day (almost 27kms). That was a looong walk. I also think the Chigoria side of the mountain is the most beautiful. So, the second time we spent the night in tents at lake Ellis (2/3 of the way from the summit to the Chigoria exit). That gave us time to enjoy the area more before exiting the park at the Chigoria gate earlier in the afternoon. There are some lovely waterfalls and nice picnic spots in that area that I think most miss.
Some constructive feedback to the park management:
- I really wish they would build a nice cabin on the Chigoria or “Meran” side of the mountain.
- Both Ol Moses and Shiptons are badly maintained facilities. It would be easy (and with the income they are making, affordable) to make these cabins more enjoyable and environmentally friendly. But as usual politics and corruption
- There seems to be some kind of scam going with the park entrances. Make sure you look very carefully at the tickets and receipts you receive and take pictures of the books and staff to prove what you wrote and who you talked to. But William took care of it for us.
Some small things that could have gone better (to anyone travelling with William’s organization):
- Agree on a fair tip amount for the staff otherwise you don’t know what is expected and there might be some disappointment.
- If you are bringing your own tents, set them up and take them down yourself.
- It would be great to have some kind of water source like a little basin for washing up and toiletries when camping at the lake so as not to have to dirty the water.
- Make sure you have backup headlights (or power source) for the night hike up to the summit. The cold tends to drain the batteries.
- Agree in advance on the types of vehicles that are being used for different stretches. Getting to and from the mountain can be more tiring than the hike itself.
All in all, you are not going to find anyone better for the job. Talk to William about a bucket list experience @ +254720462650 or williammtkenya@gmail.com
January 7, 2023We climbed Mount Kenya to reach the Lewis Glacier, taking with us our son of 11. We are fit, thought not young. I'd say this is a pretty tough climb... read more if you are not a hill walker, hiker or climber. I also have vertigo (yes, you might ask, what was I doing, but that's another story). However, Zachary Maina is a brilliant, thoughtful and organised guide. He sat down with us twice a day to discuss the plan for the next part of the hike. We were pretty slow climbers, due to our ages and relative inexperience, but he was also careful to listen to our interests - which was not getting to the peak as fast as possible, but the fauna, flora and geology - and he tailored the route accordingly. He was unfailingly kind about my dislike of sheer drops and good with our son who needed a bit of encouragement for some of the very long hikes. Shout out to David Kabui - an outstanding cook who produced porridge, pancakes, bacon and eggs and fresh fruit every morning. Steven Wangyiri, porter and Adsul Kamau, porter and Maitre'd. I highly recommend this local, homegrown operation. Another great aspect is that you're money is helping the Kenyan local economy.
