Climbing Mount Kenya with Go to Mt. Kenya team was a wonderful experience! My husband and I did the Sirimon ascent- chogoria descent route in 4 nights 5 days and we summited on the 3rd day. Since the day we booked our trip, they were very helpful and they accomodated our date change. Everything was very well planned on a timely manner! Our driver Simon and one of our porters Paul picked us up from our accomodation and drove us to the Sirimon gate. There we met our guide Zachary who has 20+ years experience in climbing and guiding people in Mt. Kenya and our cook and other porters. After having lunch there, we walked to the Old Moses camp. Although we had told them that we wanted to stay in a tent to avoid the crowd of the huts, the huts were empty so we decided the stay there and they arranged it for us. Zachary explained us the wildlife in the park which was very helpful. The dinner on the first day was amazing and the porters were always checking on us to see if we needed anything. So many thanks to Paul, Jimmy and other porters we had! The second day was harder as I started having the AMS symptoms when we reached the Shiptons camp. All I could eat was popcorn and they immediately brought us popcorn and lemon tea which made me feel better. That day was my husband's birthday and I was planning a surprise so I talked with our porter Paul to organize a surprise the day before. I had brought a candle and my plan was to put the candle on a banana and surprise him but when I went into the kitchen our guide Zachary and other porters were preparing fried pineapples and Zachary was writing Happy Birthday on a desert plate. We made a great surprised and my husband loved it! We were supposed to summit on the fourth day but our guide Zachary encouraged us to give it a try on the 3rd day to see if we could make it. He gave us the option to try again the next day in case we need to back. Having this option was so reassuring and it motivated us so we decided to leave at 3am on that day for the Lenana Peak. This time my husband started having AMS symptoms but our guide said that it is definitely OK to take our time and we do not need to force ourselves to reach there before the sunrise. So we successfully made it to the summit slightly after the sunrise. After the summit, we descended to camp at the Mintos campground and we got there our tent, food and water were waiting for us. The last day at Bandas was very comfortable with a hot shower and we finished our trek with an easy last day to return to Chogoria village with the team. We definitely recommend Go to Mt. Kenya to everyone who want to climb Lenana peak. Every member of the team is professional and all they want is to ensure that you have good time and enjoy the trek and of course you make it to the summit! Our special thanks go to our guide Zachary who always checked on us to see if were doing OK and our cook who cooked us a different meal everyday! We will never forget the amazing pancakes, soup and popcorns! Go to Mt. Kenya team offered us a fantastic trekking experience during the time of a pandemic. They always made sure that we wash our hands and follow the hygene rules. Thank your very much for everything guys! Deniz - Jean-Michel…

We recently climbed Mt. Kenya with Go to Mt. Kenya and had a wonderful experience. We did the four-day Chogoria to Sirimon route, guided by Zachary. We successfully summited Lenana Peak on day three and had the summit to ourselves! The team took covid-19 precautions and we felt safe throughout the trip (and really had the mountain basically to ourselves). I would highly recommend the Go to Mt. Kenya team for a great and safe hiking experience.…

Four of us did the 7 day sirimon - Chogoria route with Go To Mount Kenya. Three of us did the Lenana trek on summit day, while I did the Nelion climb. It was fantastic that Go To Mount Kenya could accommodate both itineraries, ensuring that I could summit Nelion and still make it down to Shipton camp to join the rest of the group. The team's services were brilliant, the itinerary amazing, and prices excellent. We are very glad to have chosen to summit Mt Kenya, and to do so with Go To Mount Kenya. The Chogoria route is nice and quite with a real wilderness feel. Staying at Austrian hut, exploring the glacier and climbing Nelion SE route was an incredible experience. The mountain views on the way down sirimon were also really shear and awe inspiring.…

Firstly thank you to 'Go To Mount Kenya' team, for making our climbing expedition as awesome as it can get. Your team's attentiveness, service, experience and care is beyond what we expected. Amazing! We booked for Chogoria - Sirimon Mt Kenya Traverse (5D4N) for two, from the initial email enquiry with Evans, we knew it will be a great expedition. Evans was knowledgeable, attentive and resourseful. He knows his team(driver, guides, porters) well, he knows the mountain, he knows what's best to suggest. Any questions, he will be able to help you with, he will. Good time response and conversation context comprehension. Thank you Evans da boss ;) D1 - We were picked up at the hotel at 8am, on time. The driver Simon stand ready, fresh and smartly dressed for our 3.5 hours drive from Nairobi to Chogoria. In the morning traffic can be quite bad in Nairobi, this is common. Also in the evening after work. As for our ride there, it was a van in good, safe and tidy condition. Simon made sure she was clean and serviceable for our ride. He was kind enough to teach us abt Kenya's culture, the people of Nairobi, a few swahili words and good updated music genre. A friendly and professional guy. He knows the van well to maneuver it safely. So you guys can trust him and get a good nap before the hike. Asante Simon. We arrived Chogoria, greeted by the main guide John, the chef Naf and the porters Jimmy, Kevin & David. Had lunch, recheck gears, repacked, transferred to a classic 4WD Land Rover and drove for another 2 hours drive to Mt kenya Bandas. The chef cooked us a 3 course meal dinner, complete with exotic fruits for dessert. Slept in the lodge with running water for the night. - 3.5 hours drive Nairobi - Chogoria - 2 hours drive Chogoria - Mt Kenya Bandas - Mt Kenya Bandas 2900m - lookout for the monkeys, elephant and other animals ard the camp - beautiful landscape view of the mountains frm the bandas D2 - Breakfast and started for an easy 3 hours hike through dirt road, lushful moss on trees and flat grasslands. Detoured to Lake Ellis for a picture and head back to the trail for the Roadhead campsite. When we arrived the team have already set up the tent and cooked our lunch. There was even warm water prepared by them in a basin complete with soap to wash yourself. Asante Naf, Jimmy, Kevin & David. After lunch and a nap, we went for a small excursion to the waterfall(1km). Water was cold and fresh. I took a quick dip to check, as where i come from there is plenty of waterfalls. Awesome creation of God, love it. Came back and wash up, there is a river nearby to clean yourself, top up your drinking water. Had an good dinner and campfire with the boys at night. Good times to break the ice with everyone and get to know them personally iso just the name or their job spec. Also this was the day we tried ugali with chicken broth. Really delicious!! Despite having eaten our own dinner prior. All of the meals cooked by the chef was great, just amazing how can you cook great meals from scratch on a mountain. Asante Naf! Slept in the tents. Tents and equipment was also in good condition. Rain came down in the middle of the night. We were still dry and comfortably warm. - 2900m - 3300m - 3 hours 9km - campsite at Roadhead 3300m - last point of fresh running water from the river - lookout moss, river, lake, waterfall, stars - amazing valleys and network of rivers down the mountain D3 - Started our journey to Mintos Hut, late morning. Now the real hiking and elevation gain starts to become more pronounce. Pace and hydration is important. The boys left later than us to clean up, dry and pack the tents. Asante Naf, Jimmy, Kevin & David! . We had packed lunch accompanied by views of the mountain peak, valleys and waterfalls. Had early dinner and summit briefing by John. The cook Naf, had to cook under the umbrella because of the rain. No easy feat to prep meals for 6 people while raining at 4300m. Asante sana Naf!!. Went to bed early for the summit attack at 3am. - 3300m - 4300m - 4 hours 12km - campsite Mintos Hut 4300m - test day for AMS due to big elevation gain - no fresh running water - weather can be erratic, prep waterproof clothing - keep eqs, body dry and warm (temp single digits) - use the latrine before you sleep/nap - prep summit gear and charge all eqs needed (headlamp, camera) D4 - Summit Attack!!! Woke up early, had light breakfast prepared by the team. Started our journey at 3am. Took us 3 hours to reach the peak 4985m. The experience of a mountain guide is tested here, John made sure we were ok all the time. He navigated under the blindness of night through rocky and snowy terrains. He paced us so we did not went too quickly or slowly. Kept us motivated through it. Timed our rest perfectly with the fitness level, current condition and landscape views. Asante sana John for guiding us in achieving our bucket list to the top of Mt Kenya (climbers peak 4985m). The sunrise on top of a mountain is just breath-taking, swept out fatigue away. In a way it is quite addictive ;D. After summit went down to Shipton's Camp (4200m) for breakfast and quick rest. Started again our long trek to Old Moses Camp through Mackinder's valley. The descend was harder than the summit attack as now it is a game of endurance, the euphoria of summitting helps you through but without the adrenaline. Flat lands, down hills and outstanding view of the valley made it a lil bit easier. We had quick lunch at the river in between Shipton's and Old Moses. Once at Old Moses we cleaned up, rested and had afternoon tea. Did some debriefing and review our summit pictures. Celebratory dinner with the boys. Slept in the camp met by other climbers at Old Moses camp. - 4300m - 4985m - 4200m - 3300m - 3 hours to summit, 2 hours to Shipton 5 hours to Old Moses - 12 hours 24km - Mintos Hut - Lelana Point - Shipton's Camp - Old Moses Camp - keep yourself dry and warm! use handwarmers, hot water bottles, merino liners - have a thermos by your side while sleeping so you can drink and rehydrate with warm water all night long. Standby a pee bottle to avoid going out of the tent. - pace yourself up and breath in deep - refuel and rehydrate at the peak. dont push it, rest and breath. take time to enjoy your achievement, savour the moment - wear sunglasses and sunblock for the descend D5 - After breakfast we begin our recovery trek to Sirimon Gate. Easy but long walk down the road. Good for recovery. At Sirimon Gate we were greeted by our driver Simon. Made our farewell with the whole team. Then our long ride back Nairobi. In Nairobi, we were surprised by a special gift prepared by the team. Again unexpected but totally delightful. - 3300m - 2440m - 2 hours 12km - Old Moses Camp - Sirimon Gate - prep small change to tip the guys individually (good advise by John, so as to avoid some team leaders/guide hoarding most of the tip) - stop by the road on the way back for cheap and delicious mangoes, passion fruit. - lookout for the equator line signage, birds, monkeys The combination of the whole team is great, from the boss all the way to the porters. We couldn't have asked for more. An awesome trip with the perfect team. These are genuine people who cares about the country, the people, the mountain and most importantly you as their customer. Their hardwork and honesty is what made them special. Again Asante sana everyone at Go To Mount Kenya for making this expedition possible and amazing. Me and my two colleagues had a really wonderful experience going up Mount Kenya. Can really recommend taking the time to climb the mountain and take your time there and discover all it has to offer! Everything worked very smoothly, from being picked up in Nairobi at the hotel and returning at the hotel again. But then with a smile on our lips after a great weekend and ready for a good shower. Big thanks to the entire team with the guide Charles at the forefront who was very knowledgeable and secure as a guide! Very good food all the way up and well arranged with the accommodations! We took the Chogoria-Sirmon route, that i really recommend!…
